How can psychoanalysis, dedicated to listening so deeply to the inner life of a being, and astrology, determined by something so outside of us meet? Is the phrase “astrology and the unconscious” an oxymoron? This lecture hopes to bridge this gap by looking at different dimensions of how astrology can be understood within a psychoanalytic context, using different theoretical perspectives. An orientation to astrology will be presented as well as a case study in which astrology played a key role.
Claudia Bader MPS, ATR-BC, NCPsyA LP, LCAT, served double terms on the board of The Institute for Expressive Analysis as the Executive Director as well as the Director of Education. Training analyst, supervisor, and faculty member of IEA, she is also a faculty member in the art therapy departments of Pratt Institute of Design, The School of Visual Arts, and The New School for Social Research. A well known astrologer, Claudia has taught and lectured world wide on the integration of psychoanalysis, astrology, alchemy and art.

It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the tragic death of ourcolleague and friend Micheline Charpie, MD, MA, LCAT. She died in an apartment fire while visiting a friend in Paris on January 4th. Micheline was a recent graduate of IEA and a vital member of our community.
In addition to serving as student representative for the past several years, Micheline was involved in all aspects of life at IEA, presenting workshops, serving on committees and working with patients in serious need. Micheline was a close colleague and a dear friend to many IEA students and members.
In her work, Micheline brought to life to the spirit of Expressive Therapy that guides our Institute. She was fearless in taking on the most challenging patients: tiny pre-mature infants, traumatized teens and suicidal adults. Micheline was determined to reach her patients and to use any means necessary to make contact. Her ever-expanding repertoire of interventions included lullaby, cooking and instant messaging. Her passion for her work, her devotion to her patients and her confidence in her method continue to be an inspiration to us all.
In addition to her private practice, Micheline was the NICU music therapist of The Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine at Roosevelt Hospital. She received her MD from the Lausanne, Switzerland, Medical School and trained in neonatology. She also holds a PhD in medicine and is a board certified pediatrician. Micheline was an Assistant Professor for Children and Adolescent Gynecology at Lausanne University Hospital. Upon moving to the United States, Dr. Charpie received an MA in Music Therapy from NYU. She trained in NICU Music Therapy at Beth Israel Medical Center. She is survived by her four children Thomas 24; Timothée 23; Anne-Camille 20 and Maëlle-Charlotte 19.
A service for family, friends and colleagues was held on January 26th at
